Down your street – Lovelace

Updates from your Surbiton Hill Councillors.

It is just over a year since we won this ward from the Conservatives – traditionally one of their strongholds.

Since then, it has been a pleasure to meet residents and hear about local issues – quite a lot of which should have been tackled long beforehand. We will continue to call on every house to hear your views.

Langley ‘5 way junction’ – Supported Star and Garter Homes as the welcome future occupant of the proposed development after Sunrise homes pulled out.

Lovelace Gardens Repaving – With thanks to residents for their patience during the long running repaving work – we hope you will  agree it was worth it.

514 Bus service update – After the successful campaign (early last year) to save this service, it was feared that Surrey County Council would put the service under review again this Autumn. We are pleased to report that it is not included in any forthcoming reviews and the contract to run the service is fixed till 2015.

Victoria Rd (‘Surbiton High St’) – Work is under way to rebuild the foundations.  The disruption is unfortunate, but this work is necessary to remedy the collapsing road structure. This is the part of a long term re-vamp of the town centre after an extensive consultation.

Railway Bridge (Brighton Rd) -Many residents have raised the problem of pigeon mess under the bridge. The site is cleaned daily and jet-washed every fortnight. The situation is being monitored and if an environmental nuisance is found to exist, action can be taken against Network Rail, leading to legal action if necessary.

UPDATE:  Network Rail has put in a planning application to replace the underbridge.  We will press for this to include full pigeon proofing as they have done at the Coombe Road by Norbiton Station bridge recently.

UPDATE2: Network Rail have confirmed that they will be pigeon proofing the bridge see the full details here.
