Down your street – Oak Hill / St Matthews

Updates from your Surbiton Hill Councillors.

It is just over a year since we won this ward from the Conservatives – traditionally one of their strongholds.

Since then, it has been a pleasure to meet residents and hear about local issues – quite a lot of which should have been tackled long beforehand. We will continue to call on every house to hear your views.

Langley ‘5 way junction’ – Supported Star and Garter Homes as the welcome future occupant of the proposed development after Sunrise homes pulled out.

Oakhill – Footpath resurfaced.

Langley Road – The work to reduce speeds and introduce a 20mph limit near the school entrance will start this month.

Oakhill Road – After a long wait by residents, the pot-holes were filled in the cul-de-sac soon after our election.

Tudor Lodge – We pushed for a solution to this long-running planning problem after lengthy indecision by previous councillors. Work is finally under way.

Victoria Rd (‘Surbiton High St’) – Work is under way to rebuild the foundations. The disruption is unfortunate, but this work is necessary to remedy the collapsing road structure. This is part of a long term re-vamp of the town centre after an extensive consultation.

Railway Bridge (Brighton Rd) – Many residents have raised the problem of pigeon mess under the bridge. The site is cleaned daily and jet-washed every fortnight. The situation is being monitored and if an environmental nuisance is found to exist, action can be taken against Network Rail, leading to legal action if necessary.

UPDATE:  Network Rail has put in a planning application to replace the underbridge.  We will press for this to include full pigeon proofing as they have done at the Coombe Road by Norbiton Station bridge recently.

UPDATE2: Network Rail have confirmed that they will be pigeon proofing the bridge see the full details here.

St. Matthews School– Work is under way to extend and upgrade the school to a 2-form entry. Also work to reduce speeds by introducing a 20mph limit and a speed table near the school entrance will start this month.

Kingsdowne Rd – Results of a recent speed survey in this road are being analysed and will be circulated this month.

Police Federation Building – We welcomed the developer’s plans to preserve the facade of this iconic Surbiton building. However, we supported residents in their opposition to the unsuitable housing proposed for the back gardens – unfortunately we were outvoted by councillors from outside the ward.
